There are many “Family Churches” But as soon as you arrive your family is separated — Nursery, Youth (by grade), Jr. & Sr High, College, Singles, Young Adults, Women’s and Men’s Ministries, Seniors, etc.
This “Family Church” is exactly that. A Family. Ours. We meet together. As a family. And, sometimes that becomes chaos! But it’s our priority, because it’s God’s. We meet each weekend, often on Saturday or Sunday mornings, and spend the day together as a family, eating chatting and studying God’s Word. We welcome friends and visitors to our “sabbaths” but are more interested in seeing God’s Family grow than our church. So numbers are not important to us.
“The Church”, as defined by Scripture, is not a building but the people who meet in it. And, the church described in the New Testament didn’t meet in a building erected for that purpose, but in homes. It was not a business but a ministry.
Pastor Steve’s sermons are recorded and available here. We stress understanding over experience and entertainment. We make little effort to offer a “professional” affair because we are not professionals (we don’t do this for the money, which is the definition of a professional). Indeed, we have no expenses so we collect no tithes or offerings. We encourage giving — and not merely of money — where it is needed, rather than to pay salaries and build buildings. We believe it is a mistake to place an organization between ourselves and the needy, for no other reason than convenience.
Many have called this kind of Christianity, immature or “Primitive.” And it’s usually not meant kindly. But we don’t see it that way. Thomas Aquinas was touring the splendor and riches of the Vatican’s treasure rooms, when the Pope approached and said (with a broad smile), “Yes, we can no longer say, ‘silver and gold have we none.’” To which Aquinas replied, “Yes, and neither can we say, ‘rise up and walk.’”
